When the Castro family immigrated from Mexico to the United States back in the late sixties, they felt that something needed to be done about public transportation in their border community.

The City of Calexico was growing but the growing demand of public transportation wasn’t being addressed.

In 1971, Luis G. Castro Sr. decided to start a small transportation company along with his son Luis C. Castro Jr. and began operating the Calexico Transit System in the downtown business district.

Thirty five years later, with a peso devaluation behind them, the Calexico Transit System has survived and has proven to be a transportation leader by continuing operating their bus service to the general public and to the Senior Citizen community of Calexico and the rest of the Imperial County—and whether it be to the local grocery store or to City Hall to pay utility bills, the Calexico Transit System, will continue to serve your transportation needs for the years to come!
